Federico de Francesco, born in Calabria, Italy, in 1979, is a painter as well as a classically trained violinist, and holds a Ph.D. in macroeconomics from UCLA. Working primarily in oils, De Francesco favors bold revelations, his abstract works resonating with fluidity and freedom, sometimes rendered with a colorful vibrancy reminiscent of Matisse and sometimes with a subdued palette that evokes the quietude of the sea.
De Francesco has steadily gained recognition as a painter, including by renowned artist and amfAR honoree Alex Katz. Along with the Alex Katz Foundation, his work has been collected by The Margulies Collection, the High Museum of Art, the University of Maine Museum of Art, and the Colby College Museum of Art.
He has been featured in exhibitions at V1 Gallery, Copenhagen, Denmark; Van de Weghe Fine Art, East Hampton, NY; Rental Gallery, East Hampton, NY; Regina Rex, New York, NY; Ross + Kramer Gallery, East Hampton, NY; and most recently The Journal Gallery, New York, NY.
