As an infectious disease physician, epidemiologist, and clinical investigator, Dr. Celum’s research interests focus on HIV and STI prevention strategies, including HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

“My main priority is to identify effective STI and HIV prevention strategies such as through oral tenofovir-based PrEP, the dapivirine vaginal ring, and long-acting injectable cabotegravir PrEP for HIV prevention, and most recently doxycycline for bacterial STI prevention among MSM and transwomen. The challenge is to bring these interventions to scale for a population-level impact, which requires understanding community, provider, and payor issues, as well as persistent problem-solving and commitment.”
