Chiara Ferragni Joins Fight Against HIV/AIDS as generationCURE Ambassador
Chiara Ferragni, founder of the popular fashion blog, “The Blonde Salad,” has recently signed on as an ambassador for amfAR’s generationCURE, an initiative aimed at helping the Foundation accelerate its search for an HIV cure by cultivating the next, and hopefully, last generation of AIDS activists. Ferragni, 27, who was recently featured as the only blogger on Forbes’ prestigious “30 under 30” list, will use her influence in the fashion and social media communities to raise HIV/AIDS awareness, and encourage young people to get involved in amfAR’s search for a cure.
generationCURE was started in 2011 by a small group of young professionals who formed a committee of fellow young people dedicated to helping amfAR accelerate its search for a cure for HIV/AIDS. generationCURE has raised more than $200,000 for HIV/AIDS research so far, and is poised to sponsor its first amfAR research grant this year. The generationCURE Leadership Council is also aiming to raise $150,000 in 2015 to fund a second cure-focused research project.
Ferragni launched the personal style blog “The Blonde Salad” in 2009, and has since collaborated with multiple fashion houses. She is also the Creative Director of a successful shoe line, The Chiara Ferragni Collection. Her success as a fashion blogger was recently the subject of a case study by Harvard Business School. The Milan, Italy-based blogger has a global fan base with millions of followers on social media, and was recently featured on the covers of Lucky, Grazia, InStyle Germany and Marie Claire Mexico magazines.
“I have gotten to know different people who are HIV positive, and I’ve seen first hand how it strongly affects their everyday life,” said Ferragni. “It is a priority for me to do what I can to raise HIV/AIDS awareness. It is one of the strongest ways to fight the epidemic.”
As a generationCURE Ambassador, Ferragni will help amfAR raise funds for research, advocate for an end to AIDS, as well as fight complacency and lack of HIV awareness among young people. Ferragni will kick off her role as genCURE Ambassador this month by helping amfAR spread the word about how HIV/AIDS affects women and girls during International Women’s Day (March 8) and National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (March 10).
