Alan Cumming
He was introduced to American film-going audiences in 1995 in Circle of Friends and has gone on to appear in many classic movies such as Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Emma, X2: X-Men United, Goldeneye, Spy Kids, Titus, and Eyes Wide Shut, as well as independent movies like Sweet Land, for which he won an Independent Spirit Award. With Jennifer Jason Leigh he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in The Anniversary Party. On television, he currently appears as Eli Gold in the CBS series The Good Wife, for which he has been nominated for Emmy, SAG, Satellite, and Critics Circle awards. He also appears opposite Lisa Kudrow in Showtime’s Web Therapy and is the host of Masterpiece Mystery on PBS.
Alan’s social and political activism began early. In 1988, he helped found CrusAID Scotland, which promoted HIV/AIDS awareness and raised money for counseling and respite care. He has hosted and performed at many amfAR galas around the world and continues to work with a variety of charities and organizations that focus on marriage equality, LGBT discrimination, Scottish arts and politics, finding a cure for HIV/AIDS, and sex education for youth. He has also supported the UN Millennium Goals via a collaboration with G-Star and as actor, writer, and director has contributed to many PSA and advertising campaigns that all have one thing in common—Alan’s belief that equality is a right, not a privilege, and that knowledge is power.
