Associate Administrator of the Health Resources and Services (HRSA) Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs

Prior to her current appointment, Antigone Dempsey served as Special Advisor to the HRSA Administrator and also led the Division for Policy and Data at HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau for over eight years. Antigone’s journey began when she was diagnosed with HIV as a young person in 1990 and became a voice for young people living with HIV.

“My work in HIV began with speaking out to make sure the experiences and needs of young people with HIV were a part of the conversation on how to address those needs, which has remained a foundational thread throughout my career. Solutions to intractable healthcare challenges, from HIV to maternal health or substance use disorder, need to be created with the people and communities who are facing these issues—it is a critical piece of developing successful and lasting change to improve services and systems. Finding authentic and effective ways to do that can be challenging, but is always worth it.”
