Spotlight on Equality: amfAR Talks to Grindr About Curing HIV

In its ongoing series, “The Equality Spotlight,” Grindr for Equality speaks with activists and leaders from LGBTQ+ organizations around the world. amfAR’s work is featured in the third episode, about its mission to find a cure for HIV.

“I don’t believe you’re ever going to wake up one day and see a headline in The New York Times that says ‘Cure for AIDS Found.’ Research rarely works that way,” amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost tells Grindr for Equality. “What I’ve always said is that there will be three phases: first, we cure some of the people some of the time; then, more of the people more of the time; and eventually, most of the people most of the time. That’s how progress happens. It’s incremental, but it’s real.”

Frost explains what makes HIV such a difficult virus to beat and major research avenues the Foundation is pursuing. You can learn more about amfAR’s research here and watch amfAR’s episode of The Equality Spotlight now.
