amfAR’s Greg Millett Joins International AIDS Society’s Governing Council, Executive Board
Millett, amfAR Vice President and Director of Public Policy, begins his term at the 25th International AIDS Conference in Munich, Germany.
NEW YORK, July 22, 2024 — amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, salutes Greg Millett on his election to the Governing Council of the International AIDS Society (IAS) and appointment to the IAS Executive Board. In his role as Director of Public Policy at amfAR, Millett spearheads the Foundation’s advocacy efforts and works to ensure continued support for the global fight against HIV/AIDS among policy and lawmakers.
Millett joined amfAR in 2014 after a number of years at the White House Office of National AIDS Policy, as a Senior Policy Advisor and later as HHS/CDC Liaison. In his time there, Millett served on the Conference Committee of the 2012 International AIDS Conference held in Washington, D.C.
“As a person living with HIV, I have watched the urgency of the national and global HIV response recede over the past two decades and look forward to working with IAS to navigate this less certain phase of the HIV response,” Millett said. “The challenge now is to engage a new generation of champions and to better understand how and where we can achieve epidemic control.”
The International AIDS Society is a global body that works to unite the HIV response across research, policy, and activism. Its Governing Council is elected by members to represent each of the five regions that make up the IAS global body. Members of the council serve terms of three years.
“Greg’s passion, commitment, and experience make him uniquely qualified for this leadership position at IAS,” amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost said. “He will no doubt serve the IAS with distinction as many nations look keen to diminish their contributions to global public health, putting the progress of the past several decades at risk.”
Millett’s epidemiological work has been published in a number of journals including JAMA, The Lancet, BMJ, Health Affairs, and the American Journal of Public Health.
